There’s been a buzz about new pictures coming out of the Seer Stone Joseph Smith Jr. used while translating The Book of Mormon. While it’s pretty interesting it really doesn’t matter all that much to me. Even if the Gold Plates were discovered, would you believe any more than you do now?
I feel reading a faith promoting talk is more of a testimony builder than viewing a picture of the Seer Stone.
This reminds me of the widely sought after hunt for the Holy Grail. A search to prove the existence of Christ and his last supper. Is a picture of the Seer Stone proof that the Prophet Joseph actually translated The Book of Mormon? No. Even if it did, doesn’t that discount the purpose of reading the book and praying to know of its truthfulness?
I understand that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is revealing more of its history and that’s great, but I find no value in seeing a picture of the Stone. It doesn’t make me believe any more. It doesn’t convince me more that Jesus is the Christ. That’s why I love The Book of Mormon coupled with The Bible. That’s what matters.
Paul teaches “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” -Hebrews 11:1
So as for the stone.
Is it neat? Sure.
Does it matter? No.
What do you think?
